Created with Toyota’s New Global Architecture, the 2016 Prius’ every component has been made to boost efficiency and lessen fuel consumption. Its enriched 50-plus miles-per-gallon fuel efficiency rating and the vast list of high-tech devices that rivals many luxury cars, earns this year’s Toyota Prius a leader in its class once again. Check out the Toyota Prius at Tennessee’s Landers McLarty Toyota in Fayetteville, our friendly sales staff is standing by and ready to serve our neighbors in Huntsville, Columbia, and Murfreesboro, TN.
Prepare to be amazed! The 2016 Toyota Prius powertrain is all-new, yet the composition is essentially the same -- a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that operates on the very fuel-efficient Atkinson Cycle, matched with the latest production of Toyota's two-motor hybrid that drives the front wheels. The shared output of the 95-horsepower engine and the electric motors in the hybrid system is 121 horsepower with 105 pounds-feet of torque.
Also new for 2016, a pair of different batteries are employed in the Prius—and stored beneath the back seat. The base Prius Two includes a 1.2-kilowatt-hour nickel-metal-hydride battery bundle, working with the same competence as seen in every Prius since 1997. But all the other models, starting with the Prius Two Eco and up through the rest of the collection, swaps in a lighter, more compressed 0.75-kWh lithium-ion battery.
2016 Toyota Prius remains the most fuel-efficient car sold in the United States without a plug. Toyota EPA estimates the Prius Two Eco at an astonishing 58 miles-per-gallon in the city and 53 miles-per-gallon for the highway for a noteworthy combined 56 miles-per-gallon rating. The Non-Eco grades estimate a 54 miles-per-gallon in the city and 50 miles-per-gallon for the highway for a shared 52 miles-per-gallon.
This vehicle is one safe ride. All 2016 Prius models include standard eight airbags. Toyota is also offering its new Safety Sense bundle of electronic active-safety logics in two adaptations, standard or optional on the Prius Three and Prius Four trim levels. The base edition, known as Safety Sense-C, features a Pre-Collision System with auto-braking that can avoid low-speed collisions from 7 to 15 miles-per-hour. It also includes Lane Departure Alert and Automatic High Beams.
Progress up to Safety Sense-P, and the Pre-Collision System engages from 7 miles-per-hour to the car's top speed – downgrading the seriousness of accidents if they can't be averted -- and adds pedestrian recognition. The distinction between the standard and upgraded editions involves replacing the simpler sonar devices with an arrangement of camera and millimeter-wave radar sensing.
Ready for some serious choices? The 2016 Toyota Prius midsize 5-door hatchback features six trim levels: Two, Two Eco, Three, Three Touring, Four, and Four Touring.
All Prius models come with:
All trim levels except the Touring version (the highest-spec model) feature fabric seats and ride on 15-inch alloy wheels.
The basic trim level, Two, the basic trim level, does without navigation and features a urethane steering wheel in its Prius Two and Two Eco versions.
The Prius Two Eco also subtracts the spare tire (replacing it with an inflator kit), the wiper on the lift-gate, and some other items to cut weight by 65 pounds and shrink aerodynamic drag. Equipped with a smaller and lighter lithium-ion battery pack, it's the gas-mileage champ, achieving a combined rating of 56 miles-per-gallon.
Shifting ahead to the Prius Three models adds a built-in navigation system along with the Entune Premium Audio, Qi smartphone charging, soft-touch material on the door tops, pearlescent white console trim, a six-way manually adjustable driver's seat, and a synthetic leather covering for the steering wheel.
An option for the Three and Four trims only, the Premium Convenience Package bundles together the Safety Connect system that includes active-safety devices, the Intelligent Parking Assist, and the Entune JBL Premium Audio System and Navigation.
Adding the Touring package to the Three or Four models provides Softex synthetic leather upholstery and larger 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, unique rear bumper treatment as well as advanced safety components that include collision mitigation and adaptive cruise control.
The Prius Three Touring and Four Touring Trims offer an optional Advanced Tech Package, which bundles the Toyota Safety Sense, a power tilting and sliding moonroof, and a Head-Up Display (a first for Prius).
